I found these bright red cropped trousers in the clearance rack one day.  I hesitated to get them, since my lifestyle isn't exactly businesslike these days.  I tend to reach for my denim on casual days, but one morning as I was rushing to look presentable for a bank meeting within 10 minutes after a post-run shower, I thought of these pants.  A peplum top and cropped trousers are just as comfortable as a tee and jeans, but look much more put together.  I was hoping it masked (or at least distracted from) my thrown on makeup and still-wet hair.  (This photo was taken after I got home and had time to finish my hair.)  In any case, it's a combination I plan to wear again!  I'll call it my mom disguise, since you wouldn't guess my day is library and grocery runs as I wear it...

My friend Elianne is a makeup guru.  I recently stopped in on her unexpectedly recently (on a day when she planned to be home all day), and she was adorable in simple but flawless makeup, cat-eye liner and bright lip - plus a Pinterest-worthy side braid.  I share this to explain why I trust her makeup recommendations.  It was she who shared a tip with me to check out a LA-based makeup company called ColourPop, and because it was Elianne, I actually did.  I bought a classic red long-lasting matte lip color (called Creeper, oddly enough), a cream bronzer and a charcoal gray eyeliner.  I liked all of them!  I use the bronzer daily (I chose the color Paradise Cove), the eyeliner regularly (when I wear gray eyeliner, lately I'm into brown) and the red when I want a bright, long-lasting matte lip color.    The lip color lasts all day, and would last through a snack, but I remove all of it before eating an actual meal, as I don't want to eat my makeup...  (Maybe you're a tidier eater)  I would absolutely buy from them again!

This is not sponsored, I just thought I'd share Elianne's find with you all.  The lip color I am wearing here is called Mars, and is also from ColourPop (a gift from my sweet friend Elianne).  It's a complete departure for me, but I've been really liking it.  It's a bit more unexpected than a classic red, but it add some spice to a simple outfit like this one.  On days where I'm not up for trying too hard to look polished (and there were quite a few of those while we were moving), it's an easy shortcut to feel a little more finished.
