OUTFIT: Fall transition = add a maxi and booties

It's always a challenge for me to choose an outfit that reflects the fall season when it's still quite hot out.  Here in the Midwest, the calendar really means nothing as far as weather is concerned.  You might be freezing wearing tall boots and tights one day, then needing shorts and sandals the next day.  This was a hot day, but I wanted to get a fall feel without sweating to death.  The maxi and boots did add a bit of warmth, but since this was later in the day I was able to weather it, and the look of this outfit changed drastically from the last time I wore it (this post), with the altered accessories.  What's your secret for dressing seasonally when the weather doesn't cooperate?
